    Legends of Rock and Roll

    Legends of Rock and Roll

    by Joey Leone

Eddie Cochran was only 21 years old when he died in an auto accident while on tour in England on April 17th 1960. In his brief but illustrious career Eddie recorded some of the most influential early rock and roll, tunes like, Twenty Flight Rock, C'mon Everybody, Too Much Monkey Business, and Something Else, but Eddie's Summertime Blues was a monster hit.

    Of Forgeries and War!

By Michael Wright, The Different Strummer

One of my favorite "student anecdotes" involves a young lady who dated World War I to around 5 Million BC on a test because "it was, like, the first one, right?!" I hope she got an A for effort! Anyhow, as wars recede their meanings change with each succeeding generation.

Once, I was teaching a writing workshop and we were doing a character exercise. It's one that starts, "he/she was the kind of a person who..." and then fill in the blank. One of my favorite answers ever to that was one a guy wrote that read: "He was the kind of a person who wished he was the kind of a person who liked to walk on the beach."

    Kirk Lorange - Los Blues

One of the 36,000 or so members at my other site Guitar for Beginners and Beyond recently pointed me to a Gary Moore YouTube video of him playing 'Still got the Blues for You'. What a great player and what a great tune. I started fiddling around with the chord progression in my office on the nylon and my girlfriend asked if I was playing Lionel Richie's 'Hello'. A bit later on a friend dropped around and asked if it was Santana's 'Europa'.

REVISIT (in case you missed this last month), CHECK IT OUT!!! This past week I was stumbled upon by the one and only THAYRONE-X. Who is he? Well, since that day I have been tuning in nightly to the coolest Internet Radio show on earth - The Bone Conduction Music Show - it's a white hot mega blast of wig singeing Rock & Roll, hip shakin' Soul music, and industrial strength Rhythm & Blues. I could go on and on about it, but the best thing to do is just tune-in for yourself. What ever happened to RADIO like this!!??

    Studio 101

    By Johnny Hawthorn

Last month we took a look at the do's and don'ts of preparing your band for the recording studio. But before we press the record button let's talk about preparing the vocals. Recording vocals for me personally is always hit or miss. Some days you sing great and some days you feeling like a first day reject for American Idol. You want to try to be consistent and prepared so I've got my own routine for practicing my vocals so that when the day comes I'll be ready to go!
